The Thrifty Housewife

That’s me. The thrifty housewife. Now that I’m officially unemployed, we need to stretch the dollar. It’s a good thing I’ve never been brand conscious and don’t really mind second-hand items. I got this cardi at a flea market outside Tanglin Shopping Mall for $1. YES. $1. It was almost brand new; I don’t think the previous owner wore it even once! It was that new! There was only a small patch of mildew stain which Vanish took care of. I like flea markets.

Harem pants

I’ve made it a point not to purchase clothes which are not on sale. Wait…. just a .. minute. Faux pas: double negatives. Correction: I’ve made it a point to buy clothes only when they are on sale, (unless they dirt cheap and the shop is not likely to give them away for free).

I refuse to throw good money on expensive clothes, shoes, bags, blah blah blah. It just doesn’t make sense to me. I much rather spend my money on food and holidays. What kind of life experience can a $3000 Gucci bag give you? Besides, I think it’s more satisfying when you look good for less. I’ve seen someone decked out in Burberry ( the classic brown tartan print) from head to toe , and had matching brolly and hat. Can you imagine? Verdict: Money cannot buy you style. I strongly believe you can look good without having to spend a whole lot of money if you are wise.

There’s nothing happier than scoring a good bargain! Let me show you what i bought! Okay…. It’s a little passé .. Harem pants are so 2009 but hey it was on 40% discount and cost only $33! This is the only pair I’ve tried on that hides my butt and is a dream to wear. It’s not stretchy but the material is a soft cotton that feels so comfy on my skin!

Daiso!

Found some lovely hairbands at Daiso. They are only $2 each! The dusty pink one is sOooo adorable! Definitely look more expensive than they are.
